Press Release - August 2nd to August 17, 2014

Marty Kolls releases her first full-length solo album ‘This Life’ at Hugh’s Room in Toronto.

Toronto, ON – August 17, 2014 – Marty Kolls has shared the stage with Sarah Harmer, Dan Mangan and Alanis Morisette. She officially releases her first full-length solo album, ‘This Life’.  After a standing-room-only show at London’s historical Aeolian Hall, she’s bringing it to her Toronto, Ontario audience, at Hugh’s Room on August 17, 2014.

Marty Kolls, an east coast girl and music graduate from The University of Western Ontario, mesmerizes her audiences with voice, melody, and ample charm. She’s the music-lover who writes layered lyrics over quirky arrangements. “Marty Kolls is a revelation,” says the London Free Press’ Arts Editor, James Reaney.

‘This Life’ brings the feel of an old traveling band filled with horns and cymbals. This bombast is coupled with soulful string sections on some of the album’s more sorrowful tracks. The albums nine tracks of catchy rhythms and melodies, intricate harmonies and solo lines, were born from the collaboration between Kolls and two-time Jack Richardson Music Award winning producer Simon Larochette of Sugar Shack Recording, London, ON.

Selected as one of Grant Lawrence’s ‘Top Picks’ for this year’s CBC searchlight competition, of Marty Kolls, the radio personality and author says “Marty blew me away”.

On Sunday, August 17, 2014, Marty will perform from her new album and back catalogue. She’s joined by Toronto performer Mike Evin who opens the show. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. Tracks from ‘This Life’ can be previewed here: soundcloud.com/marty-kolls
